Some Tough Days

Denise again - Alan has texted briefly over the last few days but the riding has been very challenging and sleep has been a priority over blogging. So today, I will share some of the info that I have gleaned from his texts and a phone call. Many of the photos in this post come from the collection of fellow rider Stephen Growdon. Thanks for sharing Stephen!

Here is the schedule from the last few days and the upcoming days. Note the mileage and elevation of each day. They burn a lot calories and flat tires do not help! As of this post, Alan has not had any flat tires so send positive thoughts his way!

CAMPING - In addition to riding, most days they camp and have to deal with setting up camp and then tearing it down.

FOOD - While in camp, they take turns, in teams of 2, to plan, shop and prepare the day's food. It's a lot. Alan says the food has been great and he gets enough to eat. Remember he lost 35 lbs while training for this ride. Alan is in the top center photo in the dark jacket. He and his food parter Steve, made tacos. In addition to making dinner, they plan and set up a breakfast and lunch table for riders to help themselves. The bottom left photo is a well used white board on one of the trailer doors where riders can write what they would like from the grocery store. Food seems to be a well oiled machine!

REST DAY - Beds, Sushi, tent drying, bike maintenance and a trip to REI for a few things that will make life easier on the road.

Cool, Al. I published my first novel with Atmosphere Press. It's called The Burden of Memory will be on my website Rick Christman.com and Amazon, etc. on March 31. I'm absolutely amazed that you are doing this. The pictures are great. Rick.

Thanks Denise, for keeping up the posts. The pictures of the campsites reminds of the importance of keeping an eye out for: (1) fire ants, and (2) snorers! LOL
