To back up just a bit and provide some context, Alan and I both graduated from Fort Dodge High School in 1970. We have figured out that we were in the same 10th grade Geometry class but we think that was the only class we had together. Our graduating class was 464. After high school, we both went to Iowa Central Community College for 2 years and actually met there in a Spanish class. We both went on to UNI and married after our Junior year.
In the midst of all of that, we both knew one of our classmates, Dayle Olson. Dayle grew up across the street from Paul Stevens, whose dad worked for the Fort Dodge Messenger. Paul now lives in Kansas City but continues to write a monthly column for the newspaper called the Spotlight. Dayle contacted Paul about Alan's bike ride and Paul wrote an article about it.
Dayle now lives in Florida, a couple of hours from St Augustine where the bike ride ended so he drove to meet us for lunch. It was great to get reacquainted again and we can't thank him enough for connecting Alan and Paul. It's a great article! Here it is.
