43.5 miles 920 ft of climb
I'm very happy we stayed at the Air B&B instead of at Ichetucknee State Park. It really stormed during the night and the morning was dark and very wet. We made it a fun night and even watched The Bourne Identity. bIt was a very relaxing evening and we also knew we only had 43.5 miles to ride the next day to Gainesville. Compared to the two over 70 mile days we had earlier in the week, this was nothing. I wouldn't have felt that way two months ago. Funny how perceptions change over time.
Six of us knocked off a few fast miles before stopping for coffee at the Colsie Coffee Shop in High Springs. There we met a fellow biker from Gainesville who told us about a huge sinkhole worth seeing on our way to Gainesville. So we rode to the Devil's Millhopper Geological State Park and we're able to walk into a huge sinkhole. Florida is full of them. There is even one on the grounds of the place where we are camped tonight.
We rode into Gainesville and biked around the huge campus of the University of Florida. We had chocolate shakes at the union and Chuck, Stephen, Karen and Tom went off to see the stadium while James and I spent some time riding around campus and soaking up the vibe.
Our hosts, Tom and Martha, live in a secluded area and opened their home to us, allowed us to camp on their lawn and even fixed us a wonderful dinner. Tomorrow they will fix us breakfast and we will begin one more day of biking before we bike into St Augustine.
