A JOURNEY BOTH WAYS
Writing about travel is daunting. As long as people have been telling stories, they have been talking about travel. It has been one of the most prolific and popular literary forms for centuries. The journey can be exploration, both external and internal, pilgrimage, quest, migration, escape, discovery, wandering, exile, tourism, or being sent to the grocery store for cooking sherry. It can be educational or pointless, familiar or exotic, mysterious or mundane, exciting or tedious. Why enter a realm that has been worked to death by some of the greatest writers of the past and some of the brightest lights of today. How egotistical is it to feel like I have something to say that hasn’t been said before and probably in a better way? When does a brilliant description become a cliché?
"Remember what you have seen, because everything forgotten returns to the circling winds."

About Me
I am a 70 year old career switcher that lead me to an opportunity to follow my love of writing and literature. Being a mortgage banker for 9 years just did not work for me but I tried to "do the right thing" and stick with the job. Then, with the support of my family, I quit my job and went back to school to get his MA in 1985 and DA in 1992. Landing a position at DMACC as a Professor of English has been a wonderful experience. This bike ride marks an end to my academic career as I will retire at the end of May.
